This breed requires early socialization and obedience training, special attention should be paid to working out the command "to me". Since the Black & Tan Coonhound thinks very independently, this dog can be quite stubborn in handling. Rough or arbitrary teaching methods are useless because dogs do not respond to them. Training should be done with respect, firmness, fairness, patience and consistency. Dogs of this breed show a special talent in terms of agility, tracking down game and hunting. Weight: 25 - 34 kg. Height at the withers: 58 - 69 cm. Life expectancy: 10 - 13 years.
